PEDAL TO THE METAL WITH AIZO CLUTCH

There’s no easing into this one, Aizo Clutch is moving at full throttle. The Berlin-based DJ and producer has returned to Southern Africa, touching down for a run of shows across Mozambique; East London ; Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) and Cape Town, South Africa, reconnecting with the very scene that helped shape his sonic identity.

Aizo has earned widespread acclaim for his signature ReBass sound, an arresting fusion rooted in the grit of the UK grime scene, where he spent his formative years, and the soulful, hypnotic textures of South African deep house. After planting creative roots in Cape Town, he refined this hybrid into a distinct musical language, one that has, over the past decade, become synonymous with the city’s underground house movement.

April saw the release of his latest EP, Alpina (Edition 1), a project that underscores both his evolution and consistency. Driven by an unrelenting work ethic and a forward-thinking approach to sound, Aizo, born Aidan Thompson, has recently secured a distribution deal with EMPIRE, marking a significant milestone in his career. It’s a move that reflects not only his global appeal, but also his steadfast belief in his craft.

At the core of his trajectory lies a careful balance, feeding the crowd while continuously pushing sonic boundaries. It’s a kind of “clutch control” that defines his artistry: knowing when to accelerate, when to shift, and when to take risks.

Now, he’s shifting into high gear. On May 7th, Aizo Clutch will release Glow Lock EP, accompanied by a launch event that brings together some of Cape Town’s underground heavyweights, including Leighton Moody, Irshaad.S, and Boon. The event will take place at Colourbox Studios, a fitting venue for a night set to celebrate both movement and momentum.

With no signs of slowing down, Aizo Clutch isn’t just riding the wave, he’s engineering the next one.
